Smart agriculture & livestock monitoring

Make better-informed decisions across fields, herds and farm infrastructure. Nesos IoT brings compatible sensors and tracking devices into NesosIQ, helping farming teams target visits, manage water and spot changes that need attention.

01

Connected farms, built for island life

From Jersey dairy farms and horticultural businesses to remote grazing land and Caribbean growing estates, monitoring can help teams oversee dispersed sites with limited resources. Start with a practical priority—such as trough levels, soil moisture or livestock location—then extend suitable applications across one shared network.

02

Soil, crops and growing conditions

Track soil moisture and temperature alongside local weather or greenhouse conditions. Compare growing areas, identify dry zones and use trends to inform irrigation, frost checks and ventilation decisions. Sensor placement and thresholds should reflect the crop, soil and growing system; automated irrigation can be scoped where compatible controls and safeguards are available.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

Real-world LoRaWAN examples

The LoRa Alliance describes MooField using GPS ear tags and LoRaWAN gateways to track cattle in Australia. It also reports Loren Networks deploying soil and environmental sensors for a Bulgarian watermelon and cabbage producer to inform irrigation. These third-party projects show how the technology is being applied; they were not delivered by Nesos IoT.

03

Livestock location and activity

Suitable livestock tags can report location and movement, helping staff locate animals and investigate unexpected changes. Where supported, mapped grazing areas and geofence alerts highlight reported movements beyond agreed boundaries. Activity or temperature data from appropriate devices can support husbandry checks, with observations interpreted by the farm team and veterinary advisers.

Tag suitability, animal welfare, coverage, position accuracy, reporting frequency and battery life are assessed during the pilot. Tracking is periodic and depends on the selected device and connectivity; monitoring supports physical checks and does not diagnose animal illness.

04

Water, tanks and farm infrastructure

Bring trough and storage-tank levels, water-meter readings and pump status into the same view. Highlight low supplies or unusual consumption for investigation. Add compatible fuel-level, cold-store, gate or equipment monitoring as priorities develop, without treating each application as an isolated project.

05

A practical island-farm scenario

A dairy farm could begin by monitoring remote drinking-water supplies and tracking a selected group of cattle. NesosIQ could show the latest reported positions, low-water alerts and device status, helping staff prioritise visits. Soil sensors and fuel-tank monitoring could follow after coverage and day-to-day usefulness have been proven. This is an illustrative deployment, not a claimed Nesos customer project.

06

Your farm in NesosIQ

Bring supported field readings, latest animal locations, trends and alerts into dashboards organised around your farm. Agree who receives notifications and what action follows. Our device-agnostic approach selects appropriate equipment and connectivity, with integrations scoped around the systems you already use.

07

Prove value before expanding

Survey fields, buildings and terrain; assess gateway power and backhaul; then trial representative locations and devices. Measure reporting reliability, alert usefulness, time spent on routine checks and the quality of decisions supported before expanding across the farm or wider estate.

NEXT STEPS

From pilot to portfolio

We follow Discover, Survey, Pilot, Deploy, Integrate and Scale: agree the operational need, validate devices and coverage, commission the solution and connect it to the people who will act. Device choice, reporting intervals and integrations are confirmed for each project. Suitable applications can share the estate network and NesosIQ platform.
