Vape detection
Give staff earlier visibility of suspected vaping events and support a consistent, proportionate response.
Schools, student accommodation, hospitality and managed workplaces may struggle to understand recurring incidents in areas where cameras would be inappropriate. Suitable environmental sensors can highlight events without recording images or conversations.

01
What we monitor
Purpose-designed devices assess combinations of airborne particles and other environmental signals associated with vaping. Depending on the chosen device, temperature, humidity, air-quality indicators and tamper events may also be available. Device capability, placement and interference handling are assessed for the particular space.
02
Illustrative application scenario
For example, repeated events are reported from a shared washroom during certain periods. An agreed notification goes to authorised staff, who follow the organisation’s policy, check the situation and record their response. Patterns over time can help assess whether supervision, communication or environmental changes are effective.
An event is an indication for investigation, not proof that a particular person vaped. Aerosols, steam and other conditions can affect detection, so thresholds and placement need validation in the real environment.
03
What your team sees in NesosIQ
View time-stamped events by location, review repeated patterns and monitor device status where supported. Access and notification routes are agreed with the organisation, with data sharing restricted to the operational purpose. Any integration with existing incident-management tools is defined during discovery.
04
What a pilot should establish
Assess the room, ventilation and likely sources of interference. Test the selected equipment with authorised procedures, review event usefulness and agree escalation, retention and staff training. Success measures include the proportion of useful notifications and time to respond, rather than a promise to detect every incident.
We design deployments around clear notices and proportionate information use. Vape monitoring does not replace fire detection, safeguarding procedures or staff judgement.

-
No. Nesos IoT deployments use LoRaWAN, a low-power wireless standard designed for monitoring across buildings and estates, so devices do not rely on building Wi-Fi. Network design, gateway connectivity and a site survey are confirmed for each project so coverage fits the environment.
-
Your organisation does. Nesos IoT does not manage alerts or operational responses: your team defines the thresholds, notification routes and response procedures, and NesosIQ can connect to your existing systems through APIs and agreed integrations.
-
Yes. Suitable applications can share the same estate network and NesosIQ platform, so you can start with one challenge and add further monitoring as your needs grow. Our device-agnostic approach selects compatible equipment for each task.

We follow Discover, Survey, Pilot, Deploy, Integrate and Scale, starting with a focused pilot that validates measurements, coverage and the operational response. Nesos IoT is based in St Helier, Jersey, and works across the Channel Islands and beyond. Call +44 (0) 1534 753225 or email info@nesos.co.uk.

From pilot to portfolio
We follow Discover, Survey, Pilot, Deploy, Integrate and Scale: agree the operational need, validate devices and coverage, commission the solution and connect it to the people who will act. Device choice, reporting intervals and integrations are confirmed for each project. Suitable applications can share the estate network and NesosIQ platform.
